Anxiety Treatment
Anxiety is the mind's alarm system stuck in the on position. It can look like relentless worry, a racing heart before ordinary things, sleep that won't come because your thoughts won't stop — or a low, constant hum of dread you've learned to live around. It's also one of the most treatable concerns in psychiatry.
New Leaf offers psychiatric care for anxiety by telehealth in Florida and Colorado. Sheilah Battle-Stephens, PMHNP-BC, starts by understanding your particular version of it, then builds care around that.
The forms anxiety takes
- Persistent, hard-to-control worry
- Physical symptoms — racing heart, tension, restlessness, stomach trouble
- Panic that arrives without warning
- Avoiding people, places, or tasks because of the dread they bring
- Overthinking, perfectionism, and trouble switching off
- Sleep disrupted by a mind that won't quiet down
A careful evaluation, then a tailored plan
Anxiety often travels with depression, ADHD, or the ordinary weight of stress, and physical factors can contribute too. Sheilah's evaluation sorts out what's actually driving your symptoms so the plan fits — rather than treating a label.
From there she develops a tailored, evidence-based plan and reviews it with you in plain language. Medication may be one part; coordination with a therapist for approaches like talk therapy is often another. Follow-up lets the plan be adjusted as you go.
Whole-person, collaborative care
Sheilah treats the whole picture — sleep, stress, health, and the patterns keeping the alarm ringing — and works alongside therapists rather than in a silo. Her manner is direct yet approachable: an active listener who takes your experience seriously, welcoming to veterans, first responders, seniors, and LGBTQ+ adults alike.
Care stays evaluative and honest — no promises of a worry-free life, just a real plan to turn the volume down and keep it there. If you're ever in immediate danger, call or text 988 or 911; telehealth is not for emergencies.
How to begin
Visits are by secure video, with you located in Florida or Colorado at appointment time. The initial evaluation is $325; state-specific insurance details are on the Rates & Insurance page.
Frequently asked.
Is my anxiety 'bad enough' to be seen?+
If it's affecting your sleep, your relationships, your work, or your peace of mind, it's worth an evaluation. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve care.
Will medication make me feel numb or not myself?+
Sheilah's goal is the opposite — turning down an overactive alarm so you feel more like yourself, not less. Plans are tailored, explained, and adjusted based on how you actually respond. She keeps the conversation honest rather than promissory.
Can you treat anxiety and something else at the same time?+
Yes. Anxiety frequently accompanies depression, ADHD, or stress. Part of the evaluation is understanding how these fit together so your plan addresses the whole picture.
Do you offer therapy, or just medication?+
New Leaf provides psychiatric care — evaluation and medication management. When talk therapy would help, Sheilah refers to trusted therapists and coordinates care alongside them.
Does insurance cover this?+
It varies by state. In Colorado, Medicare and Medicaid are accepted and self-pay is welcome; in Florida, care is self-pay only. Details are on Rates & Insurance.
